As we ring in the new year, many make resolutions to improve ourselves. Whether your resolutions are to eat healthier or to spend more time engaging with your favourite hobbies, the start of a new year often feels like the perfect opportunity for a fresh start. However, as the months go by, it’s easy to lose sight of these resolutions and fall back into old habits. So, how can we stay committed to our goals and make them a reality? Let’s explore three common New Year resolutions and how our staff help residents at Ross, our retirement home in Victoria keep their resolutions.

Resolution #1: Getting more exercise

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to get more active. Exercising regularly is crucial to maintaining not only physical but also mental health. Regular physical activity improves flexibility, strengthens muscles, improves cardiovascular health, and reduces the risk of developing chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. However, at our retirement home in Victoria, we recognize that it can sometimes be difficult for residents to exercise independently. That is why we offer a wide variety of activities and outings to help seniors stay active. From yoga sessions to walking clubs, there are tons of options for our residents to explore.

Resolution #2: Eating healthier

Eating more healthily is another common resolution people make in the new year! Eating a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and healthy fats is essential to health. Furthermore, trying to limit highly processed and or sugary foods can help you maintain your weight and general physical well-being. Fortunately, residents at our retirement home in Victoria are provided three nutritious meals daily by our Chefs. Our Chefs also cater to residents’ tastes and dietary preferences.

Resolution #3: Spending more time enjoying your hobbies

Trying to spend more time engaging with your hobbies is also a common and fun New Year resolution. Hobbies are great for fostering creativity, joy, and detaching from the stresses of everyday life. Whether you enjoy painting, knitting, or reading, our retirement home in Victoria encourage our residents to engage with their hobbies. Many VRS locations offer art classes, book clubs, gardening, and more.
